SOLAR Privacy Policy

Your place stays part of your clock.

Effective 9 September 2026. This page describes the current SOLAR iPhone, Apple Watch, widget and optional weather behaviour.

Publisher and contact

SOLAR is published by Timothée Marcellin, 1 quai Rauba Capeu, 06300 Nice, France. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].

Plain language

SOLAR works without an account, advertising identifiers or behavioural tracking. Core solar, time and daylight calculations are performed on your device.

Location

SOLAR does not request background location. If you choose Use Current Location, iOS supplies a location while the app is in use so SOLAR can calculate the local sky and AR orientation. You can instead search for a place or enter one manually. You can revoke location access in iOS Settings.

Place search and reverse geocoding use Apple MapKit and related Apple system services. SOLAR does not send coordinates to a custom SOLAR server.

Camera and augmented reality

The camera is requested only when you open AR. Camera frames are used on the device to display the AR scene; SOLAR does not upload or retain those frames. AR may use location and device heading while the AR screen is open, and stops those updates when you leave it.

Data stored on the device

Your selected place, preferences, onboarding state, widget data, reminder rules and the minimized context shared with a paired Apple Watch are stored locally so the clock can continue to work. Removing the app removes local app data, subject to normal Apple backup and restore behaviour.

Notifications

Solar Reminders use local notifications. Notification permission is requested only after you explicitly enable a reminder.

Optional weather requests

When you enable the weather-aware sky or open an event forecast, SOLAR sends the selected place’s coordinates rounded to two decimal places to Apple Weather through WeatherKit. Apple states that location information is used to provide forecasts, is not associated with personally identifiable information and is not tracked between requests. See Apple’s WeatherKit information.

The weather-aware sky is off by default and checks for updates at most once an hour while SOLAR is open. Event forecasts are requested when you open their weather section. Astronomical calculations and sky rendering remain on your device and do not require a weather connection. SOLAR does not send weather requests to Open-Meteo.

Embedded sky challenge

The sky challenge embedded on the landing page keeps the current round and guesses in memory only. Reloading the page resets the challenge; it does not use local storage, an account, analytics, advertising or a server-side leaderboard.

Tracking and advertising

SOLAR does not use advertising identifiers, cross-app tracking, behavioural profiles or third-party advertising. Apple platform services may process data under Apple’s own policies.

Your choices and rights

You can change or remove the selected place, deny or revoke camera and location permissions, disable reminders, and remove the app. For questions or requests concerning personal data, contact the publisher at [email protected]. We will update this page if the data flows change.
