Add the Byzantine clock to your website
First choose your settings in the clock builder and press Copy the code. You get one line of HTML that starts with <iframe. Then paste it as shown below. It costs nothing and needs no account.
WordPress
In a page or a post (block editor)
- Open the page and click + to add a block.
- Search for Custom HTML and choose it.
- Paste the code, then click Preview to see the clock.
- Publish or update the page.
In a sidebar or footer
- Go to Appearance → Widgets (or Appearance → Editor with a block theme).
- Add a Custom HTML block to the sidebar or footer area.
- Paste the code and save. The compact strip fits narrow sidebars best.
On WordPress.com, the Custom HTML block needs a paid plan that allows iframes. Self-hosted WordPress allows it for administrators.
Plain HTML page
Paste the code where the clock should appear, inside <body>:
<iframe src="https://byzantine.live/embed/clock/?lang=en&place=paris"
title="Byzantine time — Byzantine.live" width="320" height="440"
style="border:0;width:100%;max-width:320px;aspect-ratio:320/440"
sandbox="allow-scripts allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox"
loading="lazy" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin"></iframe>
The clock fills the frame and adapts to its width. To make it larger, change max-width; keep the aspect-ratio.
If the clock does not appear
- A security plugin blocks iframes. Allow frames from
https://byzantine.live. - Your site sends a Content-Security-Policy. Add
https://byzantine.livetoframe-src. - A page cache shows the old page. Clear the cache after saving.
- The editor removed the code. Use the Custom HTML block, not a paragraph block.
Privacy
The clock sets no cookie, stores nothing in the visitor's browser and runs no statistics or advertising. It computes the time on the visitor's device from the place you chose. With “each visitor's own time zone”, it reads only the time zone the browser already knows; it never asks for or sends the visitor's position. The sandbox attribute stops the frame from reaching your page.
Times are traditional reference points computed from sunset, not your parish schedule.
